![]() The Republic of Ireland’s 2,600 kilometre long Wild Atlantic Way is the world’s longest coastal route, incorporating magnificent coastal views, remote islands, quaint villages and numerous historical monuments. There is a location map which shows where the photographs were taken and the calendarium also shows the phases of the moon. The calendar has been produced utilising a fine art printing process which renders the images in a much higher resolution more akin to a photographic print. Liam travels the length and breadth of the country throughout the year in order to capture images of the wild and wonderful landscapes of Ireland. This beautifully produced calendar features the work of celebrated Irish landscape photographer Liam Blake. Taking in seven Irish counties the route offers spectacular views of the Irish Atlantic coast taking in many of the unique features of Ireland such as the magnificent Cliffs of Moher, the Burren, colourful and vibrant towns, traditional Irish Pubs and many other fantastic attractions. Some claim that after the death of her beloved husband Prince Albert, the grieving monarch ordered all the doors in Dublin painted black in his memory. A similar story dates from reign of Queen Victoria in the late 1800’s. In an act of the defiance, the artistic and expressive population responded by painting them in the brightest hues they could find. It has been suggested, for instance, that the practice originated at the time of Elizabeth 1, when a Puritan administrator decreed that all the city’s door and window frames should be the same drab brown colour. Many theories have been put forward to explain why they are so brightly painted and ornamented, none unfortunately likely to be true. This product has been produced using a high end printing process which results in excellent print colour reproduction. This refers to an ancient ford across the River Liffey, which was situated near the modern Father Mathew Bridge. The official Irish name for the city is Baile Atha Cliath, or the “Town of the Hurdled Ford”. ![]() The Black Pool was a small tidal pool formed where the River Poddle entered the River Liffey.
